Welcome to Guilsborough School
At Guilsborough we believe that learning should be enjoyable and challenging. This belief, alongside the skill and commitment of our staff and the enthusiasm and hard work of our students, lies at the heart of our success.
Guilsborough was judged to be ‘a good and improving school with outstanding features’ when it was inspected in February 2008. We are passionately committed to the achievement of every individual student and to providing high standards of teaching and learning. Our reputation with the local and wider community rests on consistently providing quality education for students of all abilities. Our students’ excellent academic achievements can be seen in the league tables published by the DfCS. We are proud of the examination results we achieve, which demonstrate that we are one of the highest achieving schools in the county. Over 80% of our GCSE students achieved five A-C grades and 81% of our A Level Students achieved A-C grades in 2008 with 56% achieving A and B grades.
We nurture individual strengths within our students and encourage them to achieve academically as well as to explore a wide variety of interests within and beyond the school curriculum. Our aim is to develop thoughtful, kind and considerate adults, who will not only contribute to the school but also to the wider community. Students’ personal development and happiness are very important to us and our extensive programme of extra-curricular activities supports this process.
As a rural school we accept every student who lives in our catchment area and strive to meet their needs. We are an inclusive school community with students from a wide variety of different social and cultural backgrounds as well as students with special educational needs and disabilities and we are passionately committed to the achievement of every individual. The success of our able academic students is celebrated and we seek to ensure that those students who have special learning needs are provided with full support.
Guilsborough is a Specialist Technology College which means that we have a special commitment to sharing knowledge and understanding of Design Technology, Mathematics and Science within our school, with our partner schools and with the local community. Our results in these subjects are ‘outstanding’. We are currently being accredited as an International School.
We expect high standards of behaviour and seek to build strong relationships between staff and students. Considerate and responsible attitudes and behaviour are fostered through a strong personal and social education programme and all students take part in community projects.
We have close relationships with our family of primary schools and work hard to enhance these links in order to ensure the progression to secondary school is successful and happy for both students and parents. We work in close partnership with parents via our tutor mornings, parents’ evenings, termly progress reports and other school events.
We are very proud of our students and their achievements and look forward to presenting our school to you at our open evening.
