Young Carers and Caring Responsibilities Programme

Our Young Carers and Caring Responsibilities Programme is continuing to grow, helping us to identify and support students who may have additional responsibilities at home caring for a family member with additional needs, illness, or disability.

We are incredibly proud of the support now available for these students through our dedicated Young Carers Lead, Mr Bunney, and Young Carers Champion, Miss Runiewicz, supported by Mrs George, alongside initiatives designed to ensure students feel seen, supported, and valued within our school community.

Students can access:

  • Monthly Tea & Toast sessions during tutor time, offering a safe and welcoming space to connect with others who may share similar experiences
  • Access to counselling support
  • A confidential worry box outside the School Counsellor’s room in C Block, with additional boxes soon to be available in Student Reception and Outreach
  • Termly off-site respite visits

We are especially excited that our first termly respite visit will be taking place soon at Tropical Birdland — giving students the opportunity to relax, socialise, and enjoy time away from their everyday responsibilities.

We are incredibly proud of this growing programme and the positive community it is creating for our young carers.
