Sixth Form Debating Competition

On Friday 9th February, Mr Sheehan and Miss Fairlie had the pleasure of accompanying 6 Year 12 students to the inaugural Sixth Form Debating Competition run by West Northamptonshire Council in partnership with DebateMate.

In opulent surroundings, the students involved made a fantastic account of themselves. They were randomly allocated positions to defend and had only minutes to prepare; we were very impressed and proud of them all.

Well done to: Phoebe, Orla, Logan, Thomas, Oscar and Dylan.

Below is a summary article of the day written by one of the attendees, Orla:

On Friday 9th February, six year 12s travelled to Northampton County Hall, along with Mr Sheehan and Miss Fairlie to take part in the first annual Northamptonshire [Sixth Form] Debate Competition. Throughout the day, the Guilsborough Debate Team took part in two debates, competing against schools from across the county.  Being surrounded by the grandeur of County Hall, it was hard not to feel inspired, and a tour around the court rooms made for an exciting and interactive day. Guilsborough put up a good fight and the climax of the day was reached as we watched the final debate between Moulton and The Duston School.  The atmosphere was tense as the two finalists battled it out and Duston was announced as the winner! A great day was had all round and we will be back to fight again next year.
