Interventions and Support
Interventions offered at Guilsborough Academy
Subject teachers and the Pastoral team can refer students to the SEND department if they feel a student would benefit from an additional intervention.
Internal Interventions:
Touch typing and IT skills - improves proficiency of students who use a laptop to access the curriculum.
Handwriting - to improve fine motor skills, pencil grip and handwriting fluency.
Literacy Gold - supports struggling readers to improve decoding, fluency and comprehension. It teaches all four skills needed to read: eye control, phonics, phonological awareness and vocabulary.
Colourful Semantics - to support spoken and written language across the curriculum.
Fresh Start - phonics programme to develop reading skills.
SEND Homework club - homework support for students on the SEND register.
Social Skills - support to develop social skills including decision making, interacting with others and social stories.
Zones of Regulation - framework to develop self-awareness, emotional control and resilience.
Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) - emotional and social skills support.
Thrive - supports social and emotional wellbeing.
Counselling - on site school counsellor.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) interventions including Anxiety, Self-Esteem, Revision Stress, Anger Management and Low Mood.
